BUILD A WELL

For 19 years, Bousol Timoun has been committed to transforming the lives of children in Haiti. Your ongoing support has been invaluable to our continued mission to provide children in need with a sense of security, an education, and most importantly the promise of a bright future through the hope of God's love. 

 

This year has been full of change and new journeys. It has been awhile since our last newsletter and we are excited to share updates about new projects on the horizon. 

 

As you likely know, there continues to be safety concerns in the Port-Au-Prince and surrounding areas including Croix-de-Bouquets. Due to gang activity our programs have relocated to a safer area of Haiti. Our journey began last fall, in October and November of 2023, our leaders had to carefully move children in small groups to ensure violent disrupters would not suspect our efforts. It took weeks to get the children to safety but by God’s grace we were able to move the children in our care and our amazing staff. This move, while necessary, has presented new challenges, particularly in securing essential resources. We are thankful for the safety of our children and staff and grateful for the support you have provided as we have re-established our home and programs in a new location.

 

Our next steps 

Our goal is to become self-sufficient in two meaningful ways, check out our next projects below! 

1. We are building a well: The current water supply is insufficient and unreliable. To increase the reliability of clean and easily accessible water, our goal is to raise $9,000 to build a well. This sustainable water source, would not only serve our needs but also benefit the surrounding community. Building a well decreases the need for costly water deliveries, which strain our resources, and instead, build infrastructure for a more self-reliant future. 

2. Stable Electricity: Without electricity, our ability to provide basic needs as well as an education is impacted. We plan to use solar power to provide electricity to our home and well. An investment of $8,000 will allow us to set up an independent source of electricity and improve living conditions, provide clean water, ensure better food storage and create a more productive learning environment.

We are celebrating! Recently five our of kids passed their final exam to complete high school. We are so proud of their accomplishment and are believing for their future. We are very excited about what our leaders and staff completed a summer camp for our kids as well as kids in our new community, we had had cooking classes, art activities and opportunities to learn new skills like crocheting. Thank you for being a part of these success stories.
